8 AMP / 2 AMP Power Tender® Selectable 12V Battery Charger

The 8 Amp/2 Amp Power Tender® is a 12V-only charger — not compatible with 6V or 24V systems. Compatible battery chemistries include flooded lead-acid, AGM, GEL cell, and sealed maintenance-free batteries. Optimally sized for 12V batteries from 20Ah to 150Ah in cars, trucks, SUVs, motorcycles, ATVs, boats, RVs, and lawnmowers. Use the selector switch to choose your charge rate before connecting. Select 8 Amp for faster recovery of a deeply discharged battery, or 2 Amp if you prefer a gentler rate during storage. Both modes run through the full ISM 4-stage charge cycle and maintain the battery in float mode safely — the choice is simply about how quickly you want the initial charge completed.

Yes — both modes are safe for indefinite connection. The ISM algorithm transitions to float maintenance automatically once the battery is full, delivering only the micro-current needed to offset self-discharge regardless of whether 8 Amp or 2 Amp is selected. There is no overcharge risk in either mode. Choose whichever rate suits your preference.

Both modes run ISM (Infinite Sequential Monitoring™) 4-stage charging: Initialization, Bulk Charge (at 8 or 2 Amp depending on selection), Absorption (current automatically reduced as the battery approaches full charge), and Float Maintenance (micro-current on demand, indefinitely safe). The ISM algorithm ensures the battery is never overcharged in either mode — the 8 Amp output steps down automatically at the correct threshold just as the 2 Amp does. ISM also monitors continuously during storage and resumes charging if voltage drops from parasitic loads.

The 8 Amp/2 Amp Power Tender® selects between two charge rates — fast (8 Amp) or maintenance (2 Amp) — with a fixed 12V output. The Power Plus Multi-Chemistry models select between different battery chemistries and voltage configurations at higher maximum outputs, including Lithium compatibility. Solid red = bulk charging in progress. Solid green = fully charged, float maintenance active. No LEDs after connection = check connections and verify battery polarity. Flashing or alternating LEDs = fault condition — verify polarity (red to positive, black to negative) and confirm battery has sufficient voltage to accept charge before reconnecting.

Yes — Battery Tender® chargers include automatic temperature compensation, which continuously adjusts charge voltage based on ambient temperature. In extreme heat, the charger automatically reduces voltage to prevent overcharging; in extreme cold, it increases voltage to ensure the battery receives a complete, proper charge. This is particularly important for vehicles stored in unheated garages, outdoor sheds, or regions with significant seasonal temperature swings — conditions where a fixed-voltage charger will consistently undercharge in winter and risk overcharging in summer. Temperature compensation works automatically with no manual adjustment or settings required.

No current is delivered until connections are confirmed correct, protecting your vehicle's electronics from damage and eliminating arcing risk near battery hydrogen gas.
