5 Simple Tips For Winterizing Your Vehicle

The warm days of summer have passed. The weather is cooling down and leaves have started to change color and drop to the ground. It’ll be too cold to ride your motorcycle or sleep in your RV soon, which means that it’s time to winterize.

“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Those wise words come from Ben Franklin. Winterizing your vehicles is prevention that can save you quite a bit of money once the cold months give way to Spring.

Here are 5 tips to help you get ready for Winter:

1. Check all fluid levels in your car: Oil, Gas, Wiper Fluid, and Coolant. You will want to make sure that you have the correct combination of coolant and anti-freeze in your vehicle. Your windshield wiper fluid will also need anti-freeze solution to keep scraping ice to a minimum.

2. Ensure your battery is properly charged with a Smart Charger which will adjust to extreme cold temperatures and will not over charge or discharge your battery while in maintenance mode. All Battery Tender® battery chargers are automatic sending thousands of back and forth readings from the battery to the charger every second to properly charge and store your battery for optimal performance.

3. Check all of your cables and replace any with cracks or wear and tear that may become brittle in extreme cold temperatures.

4. Inspect Your Tires: Make sure your tires are fully inflated and have tread above the wear bar. If you are able to switch to snow tires now would be the time to consider that option.

5. Create your own emergency kit to be stored in your vehicle In case of any unforeseen weather on the roads. Several items to consider keeping in your vehicle are: a warm blanket, Water, Snacks, a Flashlight, Ice Scraper, Gloves, Hat, and a spare jacket.
